Alex's Story

Alex, The Lion Heart Challenge, USA

In May of 2013 I was diagnosed with Meningoencephalitis and already had Sepsis when I arrived at the hospital just 2 days after getting an initial fever. The doctors thought I initially just had the flu. After suffering through 2 comas and a seizure, I am still recovering today, but made it my goal to make a difference and to help raise awareness and money for this disease. We hope to help at least one less person suffering from Meningitis. The reason my organisation is called the Lion Heart Challenge is because before my father passed away he told me that I had the Heart of a Lion, and even through the hardest situations, to be strong and not give up.

We want to ask this country if they have the heart of a lion! Let's see if we can come together as a community and step up to the plate and put an end to this horrible disease. Our goal is to help as many people as we can. We are trying to raise as much awareness about this disease so no one has to suffer from the horrible side effects. Our goal is not to just raise as much money for this foundation but to be able to have people realize how serious meningitis is and what can be done to prevent it. We are hoping everyone can come together to help eradicate this disease.
