WORLD MENINGITIS DAY 2011

ALL YEARS OF WMD

Saving a Life

The Saving a Life video podcast was viewed more than 35,200 times and translated into 8 languages (Czech, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish).

Saving a Life aimed to raise awareness of meningococcal disease and the possible effects  it can cause.

CoMO’s President Bruce Langoulant joined CoMO Scientific Advisory Group (CSAG) Chair Prof Robert Booy and other medical experts, survivors and parents from around the world to talk about how they had been touched by the disease and the importance of vaccination

Join Hands

CoMO encouraged 244 people from 23 countries to join hands against meningitis through its online global community.

Through our Join Hands animation, people from all over the world could find out about meningitis, the work of CoMO and our members, read real-life stories, see who else was taking part, and join their hands to create a unified voice in the fight against meningitis.

World Meningitis Day activities

CoMO members delivered a range of World Meningitis Day events, campaigns and awareness-raising activities.

They made presentations at hospitals and conferences to educate doctors about meningitis from a patient’s point of view. They had information stalls and press conferences. They held balloon races, virtual tea parties and head shaving events.

Thousands of ‘Dear Dr’ letters were sent to medical professionals to involve doctors in World Meningitis Day. And in Spain, more than 350 children participated in the First Kids Race Against Meningitis.

CoMOalso led on a range of press releases, articles, e-cards and social media activities that took the World Meningitis Day message across the world.
