World Meningitis Day 2025 Advocacy Fund

Want to boost your meningitis advocacy activities for World Meningitis Day 2025 in your country, but don’t have the funds to do so?

Following its successful pilot year, we are delighted to announce the continuation of the World Meningitis Day Advocacy Fund for 2025.

CoMO members are united in our desire for a world free of meningitis and we are all taking action to advocate for change by influencing decision-makers, stakeholders and relevant audiences in our communities.

CoMO is proud to offer six members the opportunity to receive a cash grant, worth £2,000-£3,000 GBP each, to use for meningitis advocacy projects in the three months around World Meningitis Day 2025.

If you need a bit of inspiration, the 2024 Advocacy Fund projects included: organising multi-stakeholder panel events and press conferences; an awareness-raising golf tournament; a two-day training session for healthcare professionals; educational visits to schools; and lighting up an iconic local landmark on the day. These diverse initiatives reached at least 650,000 people with life-saving information, as well as creating meningitis awareness champions who will have ongoing impact. You can read more about all these projects here.

The CoMO World Meningitis Day Advocacy Fund is a unique opportunity to receive financial support to make your 2025 advocacy and engagement initiatives a reality. We are looking for innovative projects that have the potential to deliver high impact and change in your region.

Funding process and timeline

  • The Fund will be open for applications from 20th May to 30th June 2025.

  • All applications will be reviewed by a panel of two CoMO/Meningitis Research Foundation employees and one Meningitis Research Foundation trustee.

  • Successful applicants will be announced in mid-July 2025.

  • Funded activities must take place between 1st August and 31st October 2025.

  • Reports on activities must be submitted by the grant recipients by 30th November 2025.

Top tips to achieve funding

  • Describe your project in detail on the application form. Include a timeline, budget, and clear goals.

  • Ensure your project is achievable with the resources and time available.

  • Explain why your project is relevant in your community/region.

  • Tell us how you plan to measure success.

  • Read more tips by downloading our applicant instructions and by reading our blog about what made last year's successful applications stand out.

Who is eligible?

  • CoMO members who have been with us for at least nine months (who joined before 20th August 2024).

  • Members from all regions.

  • Members with any level of membership (Full Member, Associate Member or Friend).

  • Members with any level of existing income.

  • Individual members will not be asked to disclose their personal incomes as part of this process, but all applicants will be asked to report any other funding they receive for meningitis advocacy activities.

  • Previous recipients of Advocacy Fund grants will have to wait three years before being eligible to apply again. For example, recipients of a 2024 Advocacy Fund grant will be eligible to apply again in 2027.

How will we select the recipients?

All applications are scored on various criteria, including:

  • Clear focus on meningitis advocacy.

  • Clear connection to World Meningitis Day 2025.

  • Clear and achievable goals; good plans for executing, communicating and evaluating the project.

  • Clear and proportionate budgeting.

  • The ability to reach a significant audience in a meaningful way.

  • The applicant’s existing track record of World Meningitis Day engagement or meningitis advocacy.

To help us decide between applications that receive the same score, we will choose applicants with a lower existing income (where applicable), and/or applications that incorporate the three key World Meningitis Day actions into the application.

We will not prioritise applications from any particular region or country. All applications will be considered entirely on merit and in line with the criteria outlined above. We encourage members from all regions to consider applying.
